My name is Dylan J. H. Ashton. Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, I moved to the Okanagan in 2013. Building on my lifelong interest in mathematics, I began studying at the University of British Columbia for a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in electrical engineering.

Graduating with distinction in May 2025, I began my career in electrical engineering, where I continue to develop my skills in electrical design, engineering communication, and practical implementation. My broader interests include power systems, communications, control theory, and the application of software tools to improve engineering workflows.

In addition to my love for math and electronics, I also enjoy learning about words and languages. Beginning with French in high school, I eventually discovered Japanese just as I was starting university. It did not take long for me to develop a keen interest in the Japanese language, eventually leading me to earn the JLPT N1 qualification (the most advanced level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test) and get high scores in Levels 1 and 1.5 (the highest and second-highest levels) of the Japan Kanji Aptitude Test (Kanken), a test measuring proficiency in kanji, the characters used in the Japanese writing system.

I am furthering my skills in Japanese by studying classical and literary Japanese, with a focus in literature from the Meiji Era (1868-1912).
